Cynthia McKinney Announces Presidential Campaign
Video News Release to follow Dec 16, 6 PM
Cynthia McKinney, a former six-term Congresswoman and an outspoken opponent of the war in Iraq, today officially launched her campaign as a Green Party candidate for President.
In a soon-to-be-released video news release, McKinney says "the Republicans have deceived us; the Democrats have failed us. It is time for a new beginning: A time for hope to rise from the ashes of despair."
McKinney, a former Democrat from Georgia, was one of only three members of Congress to vote "yes" on a House Resolution in 2005 calling for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops
from Iraq. One of her last acts in office was introducing Articles of Impeachment naming George Bush, Dick Cheney and Condoleezza Rice.
According to McKinney: "It is time to break the vicious cycle where the poor go to war and veterans come home wounded and ignored."
McKinney supports universal, single-payer health care; fair trade; and has been an unrelenting advocate for Hurricane Katrina survivors. No stranger to controversy and unafraid of speaking truth to power, McKinney has demanded that the Bush Administration tell the American people what the Administration knew about the events leading up to 9/11 and when they knew it.
McKinney's announcement ends months of speculation about her plans. McKinney has been traveling constantly and meeting with Green Party members and other activists across the country who have been encouraging her to seek the Presidency.

Most citizens do not know their state and federal election laws, rules, regulations and unfortunately wast their votes on "major" party candidates. Such candidates need only to win state races by 1 vote to gain all its electoral votes. All votes for the loosing candidate count for ZERO. Voting for a "minor" candidate would make it easy to get 5%. That vote would NOT be wasted!
While there's been significant early voting. Election day is TUESDAY Nov 4.
5% is all she needs for the Green Party to become a federally funded political party in the US. That would mean MILLLIONS of $ for 2012 and a competitive race.
May I ask why you (and apparently most people) do not know their own Election laws? It is a ROOT of the electoral problem.
Richard Carroll was elected to Arkansas State Legislature, District 34.
Bruce Delgado was elected to Mayor of Marina City, Monterey County, CA (pop. 25,000)
Ross Mirkarimi was re-elected to San Francisco Board of Supervisors, District 5 (the old Harvey Milk seat), CA.
John Selawsky was elected to Berkeley School Board, Alameda County, CA.
Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap was re-elected to Humboldt Water Board District 1, CA.
Art Goodtimes was re-elected to San Miguel County Commissioner District 3, CO.
Philip Blair, Jr was elected to Advisory Neighborhood Commission SMD 5A10, DC.
Dave Bosserman was re-elected to Advisory Neighborhood Commission SMD 1D05, DC.
Nancy Shia was re-elected to Advisory Neighborhood Commission SMD 1C06, DC.
Carolyn Steptoe was elected to Advisory Neighborhood Commission SMD 5A07, DC.
Bryan Weaver was re-elected to Advisory Neighborhood Commission SMD 1C03, DC.
Chris Otten was elected to Advisory Neighborhood Commission SMD 1C02, DC.
Cara Jennings was her re-elected to Lake Worth Commissioner, Palm Beach, Fl.
Michael Beilstein was re-elected to Corvallis City Council, Ward 5, OR.
Eugene Platt was re-elected to James Island Public Service District, Charleston County, SC.
There may be more victories coming in. This is what BUILDING a Party is about. This is what the McKinney/Clemente campaign is about.
She is building her new political party. The Green Party. Look at the electoral wins and it's just a small part of some 240 elected Greens in the USA.
Thank you Cynthia for committing to building the grassroots.

Mr. Delgado joins California Green mayors Gayle McLaughlin of Richmond and Craig Litwin of Sebastopol. The Green Party of California announced at least five victories statewide in 2008
will rise further after the December 6 postponed election in New Orleans, Louisiana, where Green candidate Malik Rahim is running in District 2 for a seat currently held by William Jefferson, who is under federal indictment.
Rebekah Kennedy apparently set a new percentage record for a Green running for the US Senate, with 202,016 votes or 20.59% (results not official) in her Arkansas race.
Along with Richard Carroll's state legislature victory (see below), Arkansas Greens showed the most dramatic electoral growth of any state Green Party
