I'm very interested in this. I'm a landman and this was an interesting perspective of what goes on. I'd like to ask why the well was "shut-in"? Are they now waiting to have a ROW out? Also, I'd like to know what state this was in? They said about 3,400 ft down. Is that Upper Devonian?

it's shut in because they don't have their production equipment set up and probably no gas line yet.

No, that's not what Shut-in means. All of our wells are hooked up to production immediately after they are Drilled and Hydro-Frac'd. Shut-in refers to an increased pressure in the collection line. When consumer usage declines, all wells continue to "naturally" push gas through the lines from far below the Earth's surface. Sometimes the wells pressure is not as strong as the pressure already existing in the line at that particular time.

No, shut-in means that the well has been drilled, but has been shut down until a future date, most likely until ROW's are in place to get the gas to a market line. Scottyfritts is right.

Their website says they are drilling in Pennsylvania. Unlike Texas, Pennsylvania probably doesn't have NG collector pipelines every 1000 yards, so they need to wait until they can pipe it out before they bring the well online.
This is much the same problem with natural gas found in the deep Gulf of Mexico and in Saudi Arabia. There is no market close enough to make a pipeline viable, so they flare it or re-inject it into the formation. It comes up with the crude, and you can't just release it

We actually have over 350 miles of interconnecting pipeline which feeds multiple collection stations from 3 different company's. Are NG ships east, west, north and south. New pipeline systems are currently being build to support all of the new higher pressure NG coming from the Marsellus Shale.

This particular well in the video was only shut-in for approx. 30 days. This video was filmed in the end of May, 2007. This well has averaged a 2.2% invested return per month over the last 12 months. This well is considered by us at NEDI as an average production well.

i'm really suprised they drilled,frac'ed and prolly logged the well than shut her in for 30 days. i'd figure they're would be a production unit setup on it right after, and having that baby, pushing into the system.
