If you did happen to be a paedophile, one thing you probably WOULDN'T do is write a song about it, record it, send it to your record company, have it released, get it played on the fucking radio, watch it go to number 1 in the fucking charts and perform it on national TV.

Your argument is flawed. If I were a killer, the LAST thing I would do is kill and call the police to tell them; yup that's never happened; that'psychology' is taught in the core classes(no doctorate needed). Based on your extremely well backed hypothoses, I hope your patients seek second opinions; you 'big and clever' shrink.
Oh, and based on the law of averages, thousands of people who bought this 'record' are, or have, pedophile tendancies.

What can I say. It was 1972. People were allowed to expression affection for kids without having 2,000 people marching down their street with banners and knives. See also "Save All Your Kisses For Me" by Brotherhood of Man, "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder, etc etc. You've gotta see it in context, eh. It wasn't weird at the time, so look at it with nostalgia rather than hatred, eh.

I can't believe the hate in all these msgs. I was around when the song came out and freefrench of course yr right, times were very different then, we all loved the song about HIS NIECE, that's what she was, the word paedophile wasn't even invented, yes she does say uncle ray (it rhymes, uncle gilbert wouldn't)we all found it charming, just an uncle's besottedness for his niece...(ask her, she'll tell you)

I'm sorry to all the naysayers out there, but this is one creepy song. To express affection for your niece is one thing, but to say how much it means to him when she says she wants to marry Uncle Ray? Could O'Sullivan just say he thought she was adorable. And instead of saying "more than a child" say "adorable child" it rhymes and works with the song, but it's A LOT less creepy. And couldn't he leave out the lyrics about giving her a drink? This song is catchy, but creepy.

Leave his haircut alone and his alto high voice cause we men have them and when we get hits like him all of sudden we get hammered man ,common, he sings beautifully this song and brings memories for everyone and i dont think when one has a catchy melodic tune like this people are listening to the lyrics similar to Have You Never Been Mellow.,who cares the melodic tune was very catchy and did go to number one didnt it?
