Miramax Films: No Country For Old Men Trailer

Uploaded by: MiramaxFilm
Video Description:
Miramax Films: NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN is a mesmerizing new thriller from Academy Award® winning filmmakers Joel Coen & Ethan Coen, based on the acclaimed novel by Pulitzer Prize winning American master Cormac McCarthy. The time is our own, when rustlers have given way to drug-runners and small towns have become free-fire zones. Featuring a cast that includes Academy Award®-winner Tommy Lee Jones ("The Fugitive," "Men in Black"), Josh Brolin ("Grindhouse"), Academy Award®-nominee Javier Bardem ("The Sea Inside"), Academy Award®-nominee Woody Harrelson ("The People Vs. Larry Flynt") and Kelly Macdonald ("Trainspotting"), NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN is written for the screen and directed by Joel Coen & Ethan Coen, produced by Scott Rudin, Ethan Coen & Joel Coen and executive produced by Robert Graf and Mark Roybal.
The story begins when Llewelyn Moss (BROLIN) finds a pickup truck surrounded by a sentry of dead men. A load of heroin and two million dollars in cash are still in the back. When Moss takes the money, he sets off a chain reaction of catastrophic violence that not even the law - in the person of aging, disillusioned Sheriff Bell (JONES) - can contain. As Moss tries to evade his pursuers - in particular a mysterious mastermind who flips coins for human lives (BARDEM) - the film simultaneously strips down the American crime drama and broadens its concerns to encompass themes as ancient as the Bible and as bloodily contemporary as this morning's headlines.

Thank you for writing what I believe is the truth! No one wants to sit back and just let a director tell a story. There are all these rules and financial strings attached to them anymore. I have walked out of some movies so upset the darn thing had been 'dumbed downed' for some viewers! It's insulting! This movie was so mesmerizing because the Cohens told a story - whether we liked it or not!
This is why I watch so many independent movies now!

I love all the comments from the film's detractors. You all sound like a bunch of idiots who simply don't understand that movies are capable of studying characters, themes, and ideas--instead of just hurtling you along some tired old plot structure towards an inevitable showdown and resolution. It's fucking pathetic how narrow-minded the average American moviegoer is.

Uh duh "I don't like the ending" "why does the main character die?" if you're saying/asking things like this you're a cinematically challanged nematode.

I wouldn't need to be on my high horse if people stopped passing judgement on movies when they have no clue about what makes a movie great. When they stop making stupid, clueless comments about great movies, I'll come down from my high horse.

What if they don't think they're "great"? And why pick on "Titanic" of all films? Don't tell me because it's popular.
If they don't think ... ( 1 month ago by GrandMasterScotty)
If they don't think they're great, that's their perogative. All I ask is that they don't comment unless they can substantiate their opinion with proper reasons as to why they didn't like it. This movie was almost universally acclaimed within the film critic community, who know what they are talking about. The reason I mentioned Titanic is not because I think it was an awful movie per se, but because it is generally considered an 'epic' by the general population, and it is not.

I wouldn't put too much stock in film critics' opinions if I were you. Most of them are talentless hacks. (Need I remind people of how Scorsese was received at the beginning of his career? That "Psycho" was lambasted? That "2001: A Space Odyssey" was hailed as the grave of Kubrick's career?)
I'm not saying that "No Country" is not good, but people don't have to like it. Hell, some of the smartest, most knowledgeable film buffs I know dislike this film. Even "Kane" has its ditractors.

I adored this movie. Its not your basic happy, hollywood movie, its stays true to the book and makes you realize that unfortunately the bad guys do get away and they are "out there" among us and that is a scary thought and that made it even more creepy and fun. Loved it!

For you people who didn't fully understand the movie... here we go
The movie was not about Moss or Anton, but Bell as he goes on how time has changed, leaving violence and cruelty. The movie also has themes. Like for example, fate, consequence. The coin flip scenes nail fate spot on. For consequence, since Bell quit, he left carla moss unprotected, leading to her doom. Since he quit, the bad guys won because they won't quit. Movie is very thought provoking and unique. Watch it if you haven't.
