Musharraf was the biggest embarrasment. Recall his thickly accented illiterate words to the Washington Post that Pak women want to be raped for overses visas and money. When women in the West demostrated, Mush lied and tried to to deny saying these idiotic words. Then the Washington Post played his interview for all to here. You need to access reports from reputed international think tanks which all blame Musharraf for the current instability, terrorism and turmoil we have in Pakistan. In a developing nation like Pakistan, imperfect institutions need to be strenghtened- not undermined. Mush effectively undermined whatever crappy institutions and whatever crappy democracy we had. In essence, he made things go from bad to worse. If idiots like him stay away, the system will evolve and stable governance will come!

People in US now blame Bush's policies of the last 8 years for the current economic woes there- even though things seemed great under Bush when the world economy was in an upswing, he was screwing up the nation. During 9 years of Musharraf, the world was in an economic upswing too- but Musharraf along with runaway PM Shortcut Aziz were screwing up Pakistan. The extent of the destabliztion came when they were booted out but they are the root cause- the same way Zardari is there due to Musharraf.
