Greatest hockey ... ( 1 year ago by syjajkneba)
Greatest hockey player of all-time - just ask the guys who played against both him and Gretzky. Plus, this guy hung huge numbers on the rest of the NHL despite playing in a great deal of pain and on one leg. If he'd been healthy for 20 years like Gretzky, you're looking at over 2000 points and probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 600-700 goals - by a defenseman who was also the best defensive player in hockey when he played.
It's no contest

Gretzky was one-dimensional.
Orr was a complete player.

I think it was Espo or somebody (maybe Sanderson) that said, "we always felt the B on the uniform was for Bobby". Couldn't agree more, even today. He's simply put the greatest the game has ever known.

What about Mario? ... ( 1 year ago by Infofan)
What about Mario? Saved the Penguins club from leaving Pittsburgh twice; an awesome playmaker and scorer; played despite bronchitis, back pain, cancer; was on two Cup-winning teams; if he had been healthy, would have beaten Gretzky's records. Another unbelievable player, no question.
He saved the team 3 ... ( 1 year ago by Maxie1111)
He saved the team 3 times, not 2, Orr may have saved the Bruins, but not as much as Mario did for Pittsburgh. The Best. Ever. Orr actually stated a number of times that he would have craved the chance to play against Mario if his career lasted more, but it wasn't meant to be.

It seems you are trying to start an argument with me, as to who is more awesome, Orr or Lemieux. Lemieux has done things that no other player has done, under conditions that no one else had endured. Mario might save the Penguins a fourth time, he is amazing. Because I vouch for Orr, please don't think that lowers Lemieux.

"not as much as Mario"? Cut down Mario's career by half like Orr before you state that.

Mario Lemieux is a classless man who only "saved" the Penguins because they owed him a ton of cash. Money is the only thing Overrated Mario cares for.

I haven't read the book yet but I think that Brunt is an honest, stand-up guy who really understands the game. He's not a typical Canadian apologist who talks about everything that is "wrong" with hockey ad nauseam like Bob McCown who he is a frequent guest of on radio. The man knows his stuff and I hope i get his book for Christmas!

This is an incredible book, it gives a rare look into Bobby's Life & both sides of hockey as a sport & a buisness.
Quite simply Bobby ORR transcended sports.
Transcend - to rise above or go beyond the limits.
Bobby Orr Best All round Player & Defenceman.
Wayne Best Forward.
Howe 2nd Best All round player.
Mario 2nd best Forward.
The Rocket Most Pure Goal Scorer.

the book is very good, the first half is excellent and really takes you back to those days. I thought the latter part of the book was rushed and not in as much detail. But the truth is - I love Bobby - and think he is the greatest hockey player ever and I love to read about him. I am grateful this book was written.
That crap on ... ( 5 months ago by MattExperience)
That crap on Gretzky is BS, we are talking about hockey skill. There is a big difference in on ice talent and the people he has relationships with outside of hockey. If anyone had on ice talent, it was Gretzky and he should at least be number 2 in terms of talent and ability. However, it is tools like you who care more about what players do out of the game than what they give us on the ice. In summary, you're a wanker.
This poor guy has ... ( 3 days ago by matt75hooper)
This poor guy has the unenviable task of trying to explain what he saw happening on the ice circa 1966 - 1978. There is no way to explain Orr's impact. Impossible.
Let me try with one sentence.
Only Secretariat glided through the competition as easily as Orr did.
Evil coaches found the only way to stop him----willful intent to injure.
Orr's PLUS/MINUS numbers per season on average were a +80. {This was not a misprint}. Does any player in history have half that number ?
