They place those on the track to test how the car will react passing other cars going fast speeds. Ever go past a semi truck on the highway and feel your car get sucked in just a little bit going over 70? Picture that going over 120 or even near 200 like these testers did. They have to make sure the car responds correctly in these situations because of crazy owners racing these cards down highways. This was a proving grounds, they have them established in more places then just Detroit Michigan.

the MSRP is 70k... you mean used? the GTR is supposedly in the 70-80k MSRP however i hear that dealers are charging like 20-40k over MSRP as if it was a super car, so unfortunitly it might be more expensive than a ZR1

Well, I wouldn't normally say this because it is a bit ridiculous but comparing a space shuttle to a corvette is ridiculous to begin with:
Put a corvette in the shuttle's cargo bay while it is going 18000 or 25000 or whatever it has gone up in space. Then push the corvette forward and it will be going 18001mph. There ya go, beaten.
