Pervez Musharraf Resignation Speech (August 18, 2008 - 1pm) - COMPLETE with ENGLISH subtitles (Part 1/10)
Prior to speech, there was media speculation either way and it was not clear for much of the speech what he would say.
Masterful management of secrecy of the outcome.
Nail-biting speech revealed Musharraf's decision at the very end.
Musharraf had two choices:
1) challenge the impeachment (hard to make stick)
2) resign to avoid a prolonged process - since the incompetent government would have trouble prosecuting (they had not even revealed charges, or defined the process for impeachment)
In my opinion he was less of a problem for the incompetents as President. Now he will be freer to criticize them. I predict he will join or start a political party (most probably with Sheikh Rasheed and others).

Have you ever asked yourself if all the phoney development that was "created" in 9 years of Mush's rule would implode in few weeks-all international assessments show that it wasn't there in the first place. Despite the world economy growing and all the US aid we received, Musharraf actually undermined and put back Pakistan. How can we undue 9 years of instability caused by Mush in a few months? Mush brought instability, terrorism, turmoil and a bad intl reputation before he ran to save his ass!

You really think that the Quaid as a consitutional lawyer would welcome a dictator who illegally occupied power and dragged Pakistan into the dirt. It will take us a decade to undue Musharraf's gift of instability and terrorism. Try to read a little about what the Quaid has said about Pakistan based on the consitution and rule of law. See the Quaid's comments about the functioning of the executive of the nation and what his role of the armed forces is. Believe in Pakistan and love Pakistan.

Read the Qaid's speech to Kakul PMA in the late 40s. Read what he says about the role of the executive in government and the subservient role of the military to the executive. The Quaid was a constitutional lawyer who would be appalled at the notion of an illiterate dictator illegally sezing power in disregard of the constitution. The Quaid believed in Pakistan and the people of Pakistan. You too should believe in Pakistan. 2 or 3 cycles of bad democracy we'll get to our goal if we respect Pak.
